CDC releases health advisories

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued Health Alert Network (HAN) Health Advisories for RSV, nontuberculous mycobacteria infections, and ebola:

RSV Health Alert Network Health Advisory: alert about increased respiratory virus activity, especially among children. Health care systems may be stressed by co-circulation of respiratory syncytial virus, influenza viruses, SARS-CoV-2, and other agents resulting in increased pediatric admissions.

Nontuberculous Mycobacteria Infections HAN Health Advisory: alert about outbreaks of nontuberculous mycobacteria infections associated with pulpotomies (treatment of infection in primary teeth) done in pediatric dental clinics.

Ebola HAN Health Advisory and Ebola HAN Health Update: a recently confirmed outbreak of ebola virus disease occurred in Uganda caused by Sudan virus (species Sudan ebolavirus).

  • The Health Advisory summarizes CDC’s recommendations for U.S. public health departments and clinicians, case identification and testing, and clinical laboratory biosafety considerations.
  • The Health Update informs public health departments, public health laboratories, and clinicians in the United States about the ongoing outbreak.
  • No suspected, probable, or confirmed ebola virus disease cases related to this outbreak have yet been reported in the United States.
