Building Community Capacity for Equitable COVID-19 Recovery
Period: February - August 2024
The Building Community Capacity for Equitable COVID-19 Recovery is a funding opportunity administered by the Washington State Department of Health (DOH). Under the program, DOH will distribute $1.5 million to organizations serving communities disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.
Organizations may receive up to $40,000 for projects that help improve equitable access, distribution, and administration of COVID-19 vaccines, health information, and prevention resources. Additional projects could focus on community capacity building and mobilization to advance health equity by addressing the structural and social determinants of health amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Community Media Outreach Program
Period: October 2020 - January 2023
The COVID-19 Community Media Outreach (CMO) Program reached communities across Washington who have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. The Washington State Department of Health (DOH), in partnership with Desautel Hege (DH), engaged over 200 community-based organizations and community media outlets to increase access to COVID-19 resources and vaccines in their community. With the launch of DOH’s Community Driven Outreach Initiative in November 2022, the CMO Program concluded in January 2023.
For insight into the impact of the CMO program, explore the report DOH Engaging Communities Leading COVID-19 Efforts.
The two documents below provide a summary of the efforts that the CMO program completed between October 2020 through September 2022.
