Office of Drinking Water receives PFAS sampling grant
The Department of Health's Office of Drinking Water (ODW) has received about $680,000 in grants from EPA and CDC to test water for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in Group A water systems. While PFAS is an unregulated contaminant in Washington, ODW is working with the State Board of Health to develop regulations with anticipated adoption by the end of this year.
ODW intends to further map the extent of PFAS contamination in the state. The grant will allow water systems to receive free sample analyses that satisfy their initial monitoring requirements under the future PFAS rule. We’ll share details in the coming months as the project progresses.
