Heat Wave 2021: DOH adds heat-related mortality data to website

In the wake of the historic heat wave, DOH is now reporting heat-related deaths by county throughout the warm weather season. The webpage is updated every Monday.

As of July 12, DOH reported 91 heat-related deaths in WA between June 25 and July 10, with more expected as autopsies are released. The majority of these deaths occurred in King (25) and Pierce (19) counties, although nineteen counties reported heat-related deaths during and after the heat wave. (These numbers are preliminary and subject to change. Deaths are reported to the state by health care providers, medical examiners/coroners, local health departments, and others. For this reason, the statewide count of deaths often lags behind the counts of local health departments.)
