Competitive grants available to counties to stabilize Ukrainian refugees

The state Department of Commerce is making an estimated $5.2 million available to Washington counties to support newly arriving refugees from the Russia-Ukraine war.

Counties may choose, at their discretion, to subcontract grant funds to one or multiple nonprofits, Tribes, or other organizations with technical and cultural expertise with refugees.

Assistance can include:

  • Rent and housing needs
  • Transportation
  • Health care needs
  • Food
  • Clothing and other essential items
  • Additional services deemed necessary to help stabilize refugees

Timeline

Fiscal year 2022 expenses

  • Proposals will be accepted after Thursday, April 21 (first come, first-served)
  • Estimated contract period: Through June 30, 2022

Fiscal year 2023 expenses

  • Proposals due: Friday, May 6
  • Estimated contract period: July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023
