- Free Sampling For PFAS Substances In Water Systems In Your Jurisdiction
Free sampling for PFAS substances in water systems in your jurisdiction
To help water systems across the state comply with new requirements (WAC 246-290-300 (10)), DOH’s Office of Drinking Water is offering all Group A community and nontransient noncommunity public water systems a no-cost opportunity to test their groundwater sources for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
While the rule doesn’t require PFAS sampling until 2023, several water utilities have chosen to sample early. The Office of Drinking Water has helped to interpret the results for some water systems that have had PFAS detections. Depending on the levels detected, required actions include further sampling (up to three additional samples) and public notification.
If water systems in your jurisdiction are interested in PFAS testing, direct them to ODW.WQCompliance@doh.wa.gov to request participation in this testing program.
