Supply limited for Pfizer and Moderna Bivalent booster doses
This week COVID-19 Vaccine Program providers were notified of limits on access to Pfizer and Moderna Bivalent booster doses.
The Washington State COVID Vaccine Program received a very limited number of Pfizer and Moderna Bivalent booster doses that are now available to order in the Washington State Immunization Information System (WAIIS). Due to the limited allocation, some orders will be decreased or not approved.
This week's ordering will be open August 24 until 3 p.m. on Friday, August 26. The program will review those orders and update their statuses in the WAIIS on Monday, August 29. Ordering will remain closed until an additional allocation is received which will occur after Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) approval, anticipated the first week of September.
Once the program receives regular allocations, orders will be reviewed on Mondays and Thursdays. Providers will see their order status update in the WAIIS by close of business on those days. The program anticipates receiving additional doses for routine vaccine ordering in early September and then will continue to receive more doses regularly.
Before placing an order for these products, review the following items:
- This product is only intended for those who have completed their primary series. These cannot be used as first or second doses of primary vaccine series. They are booster doses only.
- Not all orders in the WAIIS will be approved during this wave of ordering (before EUA approval). The program has an extremely limited number of doses available to start. After EUA approval, the program will receive additional doses on a routine basis. Please order fewer doses more often, rather than large amounts of doses less frequently.
- WAIIS orders are 100 doses minimum for Moderna (5-dose vials) and 300 doses minimum for Pfizer (6-dose vials).
- Doses will be available on the Vaccine Advertisement Page for those who need fewer than the minimum order amount.
- The Moderna product is being reviewed for 18 years and older. The Pfizer product is being reviewed for 12 years and older.
- Orders will ship after these products receive EUA approval, which is anticipated around Labor Day. No deliveries will be made on Labor Day.
- Doses cannot be administered until after the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and Western States approval. This typically happens within a week after EUA is granted. Keep this timing in mind when planning appointments.
