Report concerns about private detention facility to DOH

DOH’s Complaint Resolution Unit developed a new project - Concerning Private Detention Facilities. The project ensures people detained at a private detention facility have the right to report concerns about their detention.

This project stems from a new state law (Chapter 70.395 RCW) established during the 2023 legislative session. The law grants DOH the authority to receive, respond, and enforce penalties for health, safety, and human rights concerns reported against private detention centers. Currently, the only facility that falls under this legislation is the Northwest Immigration and Customs Enforcement Processing Center in Tacoma, Washington.

To file a complaint, people can use the DOH online complaint form or share their concerns with us using our toll-free number, email, or mail. All forms and telephone access will be free and available for translation and interpreter services. To promote and explain the complaint process, we will soon roll out an informational brochure in multiple languages.

Our agency vision is equity and optimal health for all. For this reason, we endeavor to help those in need and do so with respect and dignity.
