Learn how health engagement hubs will assist substance users
DOH and the state Health Care Authority’s (HCA’s) Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery will host an information session for organizations and programs interested in learning more about the health engagement hubs pilot program.
A health engagement hub is intended to serve as an all-in-one location where people who use drugs can access a range of medical, harm reduction, treatment, and social services. The health engagement hubs were enacted in the special session this year (2E2SSB 5536, section 26, page 37 (PDF)).
The information session will provide additional background on the health engagement hubs model and plans for identifying an urban and rural site.
Information session details:
- Date/Time: noon to 1 p.m., November 16
- Who should attend: the primary intended audience for the session is representatives from organizations interested in becoming a hub, either alone or in partnership with another organization. However, anyone interested in learning about the health engagement hub pilot is welcome to join the info session.

- Live event captioning available. Communication Access Real-time Transcription (CART) services, or live closed captioning, are available for events, on demand. Scheduling CART services requires a three-week lead-time. If you make your request for accommodation less than a week in advance of the event, our language access manager cannot guarantee that a CART writer will be available.
Becoming a hub
Before the informational session, HCA will offer a survey to organizations interested in becoming a hub. After the listening session, HCA will review completed surveys to identify organizations that have capacity to provide the low-barrier, harm reduction, person-centered health and social services, including support for people who use drugs in their community, through the health engagement hub model. The goal is to identify two hub organizations to launch by August 2024.
Sign up now for ongoing health engagement hub notifications, which include notification of the release of the survey and additional communications.
