Find genomic epidemiology a bit mysterious? Join this special training workshop
If you enjoy solving bacterial genomic mysteries, consider joining DOH’s Sequencing Team from 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 21 for a special training workshop on Bacterial Genomics Fundamentals.
The team wanted to offer something fun and leisurely as we head into the holidays, so this workshop will involve solving an outbreak mystery! The training is part of the Bacterial Genomics Fundamentals course series under the Northwest Pathogen Genomics Center of Excellence. The course focuses on fundamental principles and concepts in pathogen genomics and how to apply them to genomic epidemiology practice.
The objective of the workshop on November 21 will be to use what you have learned in Bacterial Genomics I, II, & III, and apply that knowledge to a hypothetical scenario. If you’ve missed any of the Bacterial Genomics Fundamental Lectures, you can watch them on YouTube. The links to the recordings are provided in the Bacterial Genomics Fundamentals Exercise document you are asked to review before the workshop. This exercise consists of a short mystery story related to a multi-hospital outbreak. Participants will walk through the story together and try to solve the culprit of the outbreak.
You can reach out to Bioinformatician Steph Lunn with any question or if you need further clarifications (or hints 😊).
