Get fired up with hot weather safety resources all in one place

Extreme heat is the deadliest weather-related hazard in the United States. Washington summers are getting longer, hotter, and potentially more dangerous. Extreme heat events (heat waves) are predicted to happen more often and last longer due to climate change.

To help prevent heat-related illnesses and deaths, the state Department of Health (DOH) developed a Hot Weather Safety Toolkit webpage. The toolkit features hot weather safety guidance and resources all in one place, including health recommendations in multiple languages, information for workers, cooling centers, and additional resources. Bookmark the page and check back for updates, additional resources, and information.

And please continue to spread the word about available cooling centers. 211 is coordinating with NWS Seattle and DOH to update cooling center information.

Sample message: 211 is a resource during the heat wave. It is a free, confidential community service and a one-stop connection to resources. 211 is ready to assist you in finding the help you need. Dial the three-digit number 2-1-1 on your phone or use the online search tool. If you are outside of Washington or have a problem dialing the number 2-1-1, dial 1-877-211-9274.
