Common School Provisions

Health - Screening and Requirements (RCW 28A.210)

The state board of health, working with the superintendent of public instruction, must create clear rules to keep people with dangerous contagious diseases from spreading or coming into contact further with people on school premises. These rules apply to anyone who has the disease or has been exposed to it.

The rules will explain:

  • When someone with a contagious disease can be at school.

  • What steps are needed for them to come back safely.

  • Whether they need a note from a doctor saying they are no longer contagious.

The superintendent will work to ensure school staff and officials know about these rules.
