Health Justice Community Advisory Committee

The Health Justice Community Advisory Committee (HJCAC) is a partnership between DOH leadership and community leaders that centers lived experience and community expertise in shaping public health policies and strategies.

Mission: Acting as advisors to DOH leadership, advance health justice through lived experience and community insight to ensure public health priorities, policies, and programs reflect the needs of communities across Washington, promote healing, and advance equitable outcomes.

Vision: An enduring and valued committee where the voices of those most impacted are central to public health, shaping more effective, equitable, and trusted outcomes for all Washingtonians.

Values: Our values are grounded in mutual accountability: DOH is accountable to all Washingtonians, and Health Justice Community Advisory Committee members are accountable to one another and to the communities they serve.

  • Good Faith and Trust: We come to the table with honesty, care, and the assumption of positive intent.
  • Accountability and Integrity: We take responsibility for what we commit to, name our capacity honestly, and follow through.
  • Lived Experience and Equity: We ensure lived experience is represented and valued, not treated as secondary.
  • Shared Leadership: Leadership of this collaboration is distributed, roles are flexible, and responsibility is shared.
  • Confidentiality: We protect trust by honoring confidentiality where required.
