This introductory course provides foundational knowledge on rabies, a fatal but preventable viral disease. Participants will learn about rabies transmission, common reservoirs, clinical signs in animals and humans, and the public health response to potential exposures. The course covers key prevention strategies, post-exposure protocols, and the role of various public health entities in rabies surveillance and control.

While the course is designed by the Zoonotic and Vector-borne Diseases Program at the state Department of Health for public health professionals to recognize risks and respond appropriately to rabies-related incidents, other professionals may find the content educational, including veterinarians, healthcare professionals, animal control staff, and others involved in rabies response.

The training takes about 90 minutes to complete and includes 10 sets of knowledge check questions.
