Washington’s multi-agency COVID-19 response website to sunset Dec. 1

When the COVID-19 pandemic began, the multi-agency response in Washington state launched coronavirus.wa.gov, a one-stop hub to help the public, business owners, and other stakeholders find crucial information and services.

The website served a vital role for more than two and a half years, but on December 1, the DOH web team will decommission coronavirus.wa.gov. Once the site goes offline, visitors will be redirected to the COVID-19 page on the DOH website.

This change does not mean the pandemic is over, but it does signal a shift. The website has seen a significant decrease in traffic, warranting a streamlining of our resources. And Gov. Jay Inslee has rescinded any remaining COVID-19 emergency orders and the state of emergency related to the pandemic.

Last year, the COVID-19 state Joint Information Center handed the DOH web team the responsibility of maintaining coronavirus.wa.gov. The web team is working with the Governor’s Office to transition the website into this next phase. This includes asking other state agencies to migrate their content onto their own agency websites. Additionally, the web team will decommission coronavirus.wa.gov in a way that is recoverable should the state ever need to resurrect the website.

As part of the decommissioning effort, we will move still relevant content on coronavirus.wa.gov to a new home on doh.wa.gov. For instance, the web team plans to move several partner toolkits from coronavirus.wa.gov to doh.wa.gov. These toolkits offer materials from public health campaigns about vaccines, the flu, WA Notify and more.

Once the toolkits move to the COVID-19 Resources and Recommendations section of doh.wa.gov, the web team will establish redirects so that anyone with an outdated toolkit link will be sent to the new toolkit location, in as seamless a manner as possible.
