The following subpages break up the formal education pathway towards earning a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential into smaller, degree-focused steps.
Before you peruse the educational resources pages, please note:
- Some universities use a quarter system. These schools usually have:
- Fall, Winter, Spring quarters – 10 weeks per quarter
- Summer quarter – sometimes split into two summer terms, overall, 10 weeks long
- Their total required credit hours for a bachelor’s degree are 180 credits. A student transferring in with an associate degree would have the equivalent of 90 credits completed.
- Their tuition rates reflect quarter lengths.
- Some universities use a semester system. These schools usually have:
- Fall semester – 15 weeks
- Spring semester – 15 weeks
- Summer semester – 12 weeks
- Their total required credit hours for a bachelor’s degree are 120 credits. A student transferring in with an associate degree would have the equivalent of 60 credits completed.
- Their tuition rates reflect semester lengths.
- Some programs offer in-person attendance only, some offer hybrid options, and some offer online attendance.
- Some online programs offer all courses as asynchronous classes (take these during any time of day that suits your needs), some offer them as synchronous classes (take these during times they ask you to).
- Some programs allow part-time attendance (typically one to two classes per quarter or semester), while some allow full-time attendance (typically three or more classes per quarter or semester) only.
