Video and flyer aim to help protect long-term care residents
For residents of a long-term care facility, receiving visits is an important element of quality of life. Yet visits can also pose a risk of bringing illness into the building. We want to help visiting family and friends of residents understand and comply with infection prevention core principles to make visitation safer and protect residents' rights.
In collaboration with partner agencies, long-term care facility associations and administrators, the state Department of Health developed two educational videos on infection prevention for visitors to long-term care facilities. These videos provide basic, accessible information on how to visit safely, including how to visit residents in quarantine or isolation.
LTC Visitation video covers basic infection prevention practices when visiting long-term care facility.
LTC Precaution video covers proper use of personal protective equipment when visiting someone who is in quarantine or isolation.
DOH will send an email with a flyer and links to the videos to long-term care associations and tribal partners across the state, who can share the resources with facilities in their jurisdictions. LTC facilities can play the videos in a visitation area and hand out or post a flyer with a QR code that will take visitors to videos on YouTube.
Work is under way to translate the flyers into five additional languages. The videos, flyer, and more information on long-term care visitation can be found at www.doh.wa.gov/VisitSafely, which you can offer on your social media channels.
Questions about the videos should be directed to Special Projects Unit Supervisor Bonita Campo. Send Epidemiologist Cassie Prather your questions about long-term care visitation guidance.
