The ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) model uses a virtual educational lecture series and patient case discussion to improve provider preparedness to treat patients and improve patient outcomes. The LAMMHA ECHO Perinatal Case Conference Series will use the ECHO model to improve providers' capacity to care for their patients' mental health, aimed to improve patient identification and decrease suicide rates.

Anna King, LCSW, PMH-C

Anna King, LCSW, PMH-C, (she/her) is a licensed clinical social worker and certified perinatal mental health specialist. She has over 10-years' experience in serving the mental health needs of the community and has found her passion in supporting folks across the reproductive journey. She has been a social worker in a hospital Emergency Department, birthing center, and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). She currently serves as the Director of Training with Maternal Mental Health NOW where she curates conference events and develops curricula to educate providers on perinatal mental health.

She also serves as an inaugural Health Advisory Board member with Babylist and is an active member of The Blacker The Brain™ cohort for decolonizing mental health. She is a part-time psychotherapist with ARC Counseling and Wellness and a Ph.D. student in the Integral and Transpersonal Psychology program at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS). She has also served as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) with Postpartum Support International (PSI) to write and review exam items for the national perinatal mental health certification.

Ian Bennett MD, PhD
Ian Bennett MD, PhD

Dr. Bennett is a family physician providing full spectrum primary care including obstetric, family planning, pediatric and general adult health care with particular expertise in perinatal depression. He is a Professor of the departments of Family Medicine, Psychiatry, and Global Health and a physician scientist focusing his scholarly and clinical career on the delivery of integrated mental health care and primary health services for historically underserved populations in the US and in low and middle income countries (LMICs). Dr. Bennett is a member of the WA Maternal Mortality Review Panel (MMRP) and manages the MMRP ECHO and MMRP Across Washington efforts to disseminate the findings of the recent report of this group and build community partnered groups to identify local approaches to reduce the risk of maternal mortality.

Sayida Peprah-Wilson, PsyD

 

Dr. Sayida Peprah-Wilson is both a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Full Spectrum Doula, with over 15 years of experience in both fields. She specializes in multicultural psychology, trauma, suicide prevention and perinatal mental health, and has practiced in community-based, in-home, psychiatric hospital and prison settings. She has a multifaceted career as a psychologist, consultant, diversity educator and community doula program co-director with Frontline Doulas and Sankofa Birthworkers Collective of the Inland Empire. Dr. Sayida is the Founder and Executive Director of the non-profit organization Diversity Uplifts, Inc., whose mission is to improve the well-being of women, birthing people, children and families and increase cultural competence and humility among providers who serve them.

Jolene Collins, MD MACM is a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the Keck School of Medicine of USC. She received her medical degree from University of California, San Francisco and completed her pediatric training at Children’s Hospital Oakland before going on to receive a Master’s in Academic Medicine from the University of Southern California. Her area of focus is in medical education and the intersection with clinical operations.

Emily C. Dossett, MD, MTS, is a reproductive psychiatrist and the founder and director of the Reproductive Mental Health Program at Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Medical Center. Dr. Dossett is Assistant Clinical Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and of Obstetrics-Gynecology at USC’s Keck School of Medicine, where she teaches medical students, residents, and fellows about reproductive mental health. She has served Los Angeles County as the first Associate Medical Director of Women’s Health and Reproductive Psychiatry for the Department of Mental Health, as well as the psychiatric lead for the MAMAs Neighborhood Program.

Sinmi Bamgbose, MD (she/her) is a reproductive psychiatrist committed to expanding access to timely and cost-effective mental health care. Dr. Bamgbose obtained her medical degree at Morehouse School of Medicine and completed residency training in adult psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco with a distinction in Women’s Mental Health. She is the founder of Itunu Psychiatry, a private psychiatric practice dedicated to the mental health and well-being of women and birthing people.

Gabrielle Kaufman, MA,LPCC,BC-DMT,NCC,PMH-C (she/her/hers), is a dance/movement therapist and licensed professional clinical counselor with over 30 years experience in the healing profession. For over ten years, she served as clinical director of Maternal Mental Health NOW. Prior to this, she served as director of the New Moms Connect Program of Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles providing services to new parents, particularly those suffering from symptoms of postpartum depression. Gabrielle is faculty for PSI/2020 Mom, the UCLArts and Healing Institute and Drexel University. Gabrielle serves on the advisory boards for Hasidah, an organization helping families struggling with fertility and Love, Dad, a non-profit supporting fatherhood. She has served as Los Angeles coordinator for Postpartum Support International and is in private practice in Los Angeles serving clients in English and Spanish languages.

Michelle works for one of the largest child welfare organizations in the United States and has a private practice where while specializing in women's mental health. She is a certified mindfulness and meditation guide and is actively working towards certification in Perinatal Mental Health by Postpartum Support International.

Dr. Sharon Tan is a licensed Clinical Psychologist in the State of California for almost 13 years. She has experience providing therapy services across all ages and currently works part-time as a psychologist on the Perinatal & Pediatric Palliative Care Team at Miller Children’s and Women’s Hospital. She is also on the multidisciplinary team of the Perinatal Connections program, which provides support to mothers of high-risk pregnancies, often supporting moms coping with fetal abnormalities. Dr. Tan was a part-time Psychologist in the NICU at Miller’s for two years prior and enjoyed supporting families who had infants with medical complexities.

Dr. Tan has had extensive experience in community mental health settings as well, where she provided training and supervision for services to children birth to five. She is a graduate fellow from the Infant-Parent Mental Health Post Graduate Certificate Program from the University of Massachusetts. She is also a California endorsed Infant-Family & Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist and is passionate about helping young children thrive through nurturing relationships and strengthening communities by building strong families. Dr. Tan sees clients in her private practice in Southern California, located in Brea.

Dr. Tan is a consultant and therapist, but the title she is most proud of is ‘mother’ of two lovely daughters.

Elyse is a founding board member for Postpartum Support International’s California chapter and currently serves as the CA-PSI Policy and Advocacy Chair. Elyse is an emeritus Governing Council member for Maternal Mental Health Now after serving an eight year term, in addition to ongoing training faculty for the organization. Elyse served as a Board Member of national maternal mental health policy and advocacy group 2020 Mom Project from 2014-2019, and was a 2020 Mom Clinical Advisory member through 2021. In addition, Elyse is training faculty and Emeritus Board Member for national perinatal loss organization Return to Zero:HOPE and training faculty for paternal perinatal non-profit Love, Dad. Elyse is an EMDR certified therapist and EMDRIA-approved consultant, certified in IPT through the IPT Institute, an IPT supervisor-in-training and certified in perinatal mental health (PMH-C) through PSI.

Kevin Gruenberg, PsyD, is the Executive Director and co-founder of Love, Dad: Support for Fathers and Families. His work advocates for family-child health through the inclusion of fathers in perinatal and early childhood services. Dr. Gruenberg co-developed and researched a home visitation program for fathers and their infants and is currently launching a system to screen and treat fathers with mental health challenges. He also provides consultation and training on fatherhood, paternal perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, and building parent-child relationships. He serves on the Maternal Mental Health NOW's Governing Council.

 

    Learning Objectives

    What is the LAMMHA ECHO series?

    The LAMMHA ECHO series is a 10-session CME-accredited* and CE-accredited program for California providers who want to improve care for their perinatal patients' mental health. The series is presented by the LAMMHA project with support through the California Health Care Foundation (CHCF).

    • Ten monthly, 60-minute sessions for California providers who want to improve care for their perinatal patients' mental health ​
    • Didactic content on risk assessment and management of perinatal mental health​
    • In-depth case presentation and group discussion facilitated by a multidisciplinary team
    • Sessions facilitated by a multidisciplinary team including University of Washington Medicine perinatal psychiatrists and family medicine physicians.

    Each cohort series will be held: February to November

    • Registration is open to all California perinatal providers
    • Choose this level if limited capacity to support implementation/QI work but interested in improving perinatal mental health ​

      Sarah Oreck-Lantos, MD, MS, is a Columbia University-trained psychiatrist focused on Women’s Mental Wellness. Dr. Oreck-Lantos is one of a handful of doctors with specialized training in reproductive psychiatry. She runs a private practice in which she combines the most up-to-date medical treatments with talk therapy, meditation, and a whole-body complementary approach. Dr. Oreck-Lantos is passionate about using social media to provide education and regularly consults for several hospitals in Los Angeles on their perinatal mental health programs. She is also a medical advisor for several health tech startups and is interested in leveraging technology solutions to improve maternal mental health.

      Dr. Gregory received her Bachelor of Science degree at University California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and completed her medical training at the Charles Drew University of Medicine & Science/UCLA Medical Education Program. She did her residency training in Obstetrics &
      Gynecology at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston Massachusetts, and her fellowship training in Maternal Fetal Medicine at University Southern California Women’s Hospital. She received a Master’s in Public Health from Harvard’s School of Public Health. Board certified in Ob/Gyn and Maternal-Fetal Medicine, she maintains an active clinical practice in high risk obstetrics. She is Vice Chair of Women’s Healthcare Quality &
      Performance Improvement and the Helping Hand Chair in Maternal Fetal Medicine at Cedars Sinai Medical Center. She is the Fellowship and Division Director for the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine. She is a professor in the Department Ob/GYN at Cedars Sinai, with a joint
      appointment at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health Department of Community Health Sciences. Her research interests include cesarean delivery, maternal morbidity and mortality, safety and quality of care in obstetrics,
      and developing patient reported outcome measures for evaluating maternal satisfaction with the childbirth experience. She has received federal and foundation funding for her research and has over 120 peer-reviewed articles in professional journals.
      She has served on numerous regional and national advisory boards and committees including but not limited to American College Obstetricians & Gynecologist (ACOG), the United States Prevention Services Task Force (USPSTF), California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative (CMQCC), National Institute of Health (NIH) Office for Research Women’s Health (ORWH), National Quality Forum (NQF), and the Institute of Medicine (IOM). She is currently serving as chair of ACOG Women’s Preventive Services Initiative (WPSI) Advisory Board, and Southern California Maternal Mortality Review Committee.
