Apple Health renewal letters going out

People covered by Washington Apple Health (Medicaid) are starting to receive letters reminding them to update their contact information and renew coverage if they still qualify.

Federal requirements during the pandemic ensured clients stayed enrolled in Apple Health, even if their income made them ineligible. However, with the end of the Public Health Emergency declaration on May 11, those on Apple Health could lose coverage if their family income has increased.

Washingtonians on Apple Health will get their renewal notifications over the next 12 months. The state Health Care Authority, Washington Health Benefit Exchange, and the Department of Social and Health Services are sending out the renewal letters.

  • If clients are auto renewed, they will get a notification stating their health coverage was renewed.
    • For most people, health coverage will be renewed for 12 months.
    • The requirement will continue for clients to report any changes within 30 days.
  • If clients are not auto renewed, they will get a renewal notice in the mail.
    • They must respond to complete their renewal by the 60-day deadline.
    • If at the end of 60 days the client hasn’t responded, the state will send a notice informing them their Apple Health benefits are ending.

The renewal month typically matches the month Apple Health coverage started for the insured person.
